Children laughingly give a thumbs up while an early years educator talks to them

2017

With its "Language Support Concept", the City of Wolfsburg places children's language competence at the centre of systematic further training for daycare staff. In the centres, staff support all children from the very start through to the transition to primary school by using language-supportive behaviour in everyday routines. Through the Language Support Concept, all children receive everyday, integrated support in learning German as the language of education — including children with weaker language skills or children with little or no knowledge of German.

The film presents the three different modules of the "Language Support Concept" and shows, within 12 minutes, how targeted language work can be deliberately integrated into daycare routines. Alongside documentary scenes, animated sequences and interviews are used to illustrate how the concept works and to depict the everyday work in daycare.
