Illuminated tent in the forest at night, two people making shadow puppets with their hands

2021

Stronger engagement in science communication has become essential for most researchers, in order to make their findings more visible and enable participation. Most researchers, however, tend to limit their conversations and publications mainly to a "scientific community". Yet closing the gap between the scientific world and the public is of crucial importance.

The aim of this online training for AGYA members was to develop storyboards and core messages for research project ideas and translate them into audiovisual storytelling. Participants were introduced to the concepts of storytelling as a tool for research communication. They learned how to develop their own narrative and were introduced to the basics of professional film production. They were also introduced to video editing using open-source software. Following the training, a series of one-to-one coaching sessions accompanied the resulting video productions on a professional level.
