2020

Watches and jewellery, wedding rings and documents, letters and photographs: in the concentration camps, the National Socialists confiscated people's personal belongings. The Arolsen Archives still hold nearly 2,700 personal items belonging to former concentration camp prisoners, keeping them safe until they can be returned to the families. The #StolenMemory campaign, launched in 2016, has already helped trace several hundred families, often with the help of volunteers researching in different countries. We interviewed some of the relatives who received these so-called "personal effects" back and made short films, which can be found on the following website:
