What Is Computer Science?

This animated film illustrates, in an engaging way, the history and significance of computer science for primary school teaching. It aims to spark teachers' enthusiasm for the subject, raise awareness of the relevance of computer science to every area of life, and proactively counter prejudices. After all, taking part in society and helping shape it responsibly today requires digital competencies above all. The explainer animation encourages education professionals to notice computer science in everyday situations together with children. It also offers plenty of suggestions for how they can inspire children about computing education and strengthen relevant skills — even without electronic devices.

The three-minute explainer animation was produced on behalf of the non-profit foundation "Stiftung Haus der kleinen Forscher", which is committed to good early education in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology (STEM) — with the aim of equipping girls and boys with strength for the future and enabling them to act sustainably.
