The Deutsche Geophysikalische Gesellschaft (DGG) was founded in Leipzig in 1922 as the Deutsche Seismologische Gesellschaft. The DGG's aim is to expand and disseminate geophysical knowledge in research, teaching and application. It is open to anyone with an interest in geophysics, individuals and institutions alike, and currently has around 1,200 members across 35 countries.

It provides a platform for disseminating geophysical knowledge and represents the scientific interests of geophysics in national and international bodies. It strengthens the exchange of experience and collaboration among geophysicists and fosters interdisciplinary contacts.
