Our film communicates the key content of the research project “LogMySelf: Opportunities, Risks and the Future of Lifelogging and Self-Tracking in Dialogue with Young People”, which examines the legal, social and ethical dimensions of lifelogging at both the individual and societal level.
Lifelogging, understood as an umbrella term for the many forms of digital self-tracking, logging and publishing of personal health data, is an expression of fundamental processes of change. Using biosensors, ever-smaller mobile devices and apps, people measure things such as heart rate, blood sugar, step counts and sleep quality, but increasingly also complex emotional states such as joy and sadness. This gradually shifts the frame of reference for our perceptions. The growing digital penetration of vital areas of life is changing the relationship between people and their own bodies. The aim of the project is therefore to introduce young people to the critical discourse on questions raised by the modern life sciences, using self-tracking and life logging as examples, and so to convey basic competencies for dealing with them.
