"Every flight pollutes the atmosphere." Sure. "Greenhouse gas emissions? Global warming?" True. But can't we talk about something else?
For this spot, inspired by the phenomenon of "cognitive dissonance", we asked numerous passengers at Frankfurt Airport how they would describe the gap between what they know and how they act. We had professional actors re-enact the most common answers. The spot addresses the fact that the richest 20% of the world's population not only consume 80% of the world's natural resources but are also the largest emitters of greenhouse gases. At the same time, countries in the Global South are hit hardest by a climate change they are barely responsible for. They also rarely have the resources needed for adequate adaptation and mitigation measures. Achieving greater climate justice means taking into account that there is a "climate-neutral" annual budget of around 2 tonnes of CO2 per person per year (covering housing, mobility, food, heating — everything!). A single long-haul flight is usually enough to exceed that budget.
